Mr Sleat qualified from Cambridge University in 2004. He subsequently trained in Cambridge, Ipswich, London and Kent, before completing specialist orthopaedic training in Oxford, including two years dedicated to hip and knee replacement surgery.
A further year was spent on a Fellowship at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver. An opportunity to broaden knowledge and the place where he developed his special interest in trauma, particularly sports injuries to the knee.
In 2016, Mr Sleat entered the GMC’s specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. Consultancy posts in Oxford followed, with his focus often on primary hip replacement surgery and sports injuries of the knee, including arthroscopic surgery.
Mr Sleat has led an acute knee clinic and served as a trauma specialist, treating injuries to upper and lower limbs. The breadth of support and excellent outcomes his skills bring to our patients are welcome, as is the individual care he offers them.
Orthopaedics is a science and medical discipline which benefits from understanding each patient’s unique needs, an aspect MR Sleat believes is critical to success.
Research & Teaching
Mr Sleat is the trauma research lead for an Oxford trust, serving as principal investigator on two current studies. He was part of the Department of Health team which drove the successful implementation of trauma networks in England.
He has published papers and lectured on trauma surgery, along with acting as training lead for orthopaedic registrars and running the innovative, Oxford University Hospitals Trauma & Orthopaedic training programme.
