Mr Chan qualified in medicine from Cambridge University, in 2004. After experience in East Anglia and London, he completed higher surgical training in plastic surgery. This took place in Oxford, where he was later awarded a PhD.
A Travelling Bursary from BAPRAS saw Mr Chan undertake further sub-specialty training in reconstructive microsurgery. At the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, one of the world’s foremost plastic surgery centres.
He believes that holding knowledge of cutting edge plastic surgery is the best way to help his patients. That the finest skills should be available to solve complex surgical problems, or to treat more common conditions.
Mr Chan was admitted to the GMC’s specialist list for plastic surgery in 2019. He offers a full range of care, from hand surgery, to nerve, tendon or joint issues, to reconstruction following the surgical removal of skin cancers.
As importantly, Mr Chan believes in delivering the best evidence based care, tailored to the individual needs of his patients. Part of his inherent wish to enable all patients to get the best from their lives.
Research & Teaching
Mr Chan holds a Clinical Lectureship at Oxford University. He has worked as a Fellow at Cochrane UK, focusing on the synthesis and dissemination of evidence based medicine.
Published widely in medical journals and plastic surgery textbooks, Mr Chan has also contributed to national guidance on traumatic limb reconstruction. He has held awards and grants from major institutions, including the Wellcome Trust and Academy of Medical Sciences.
Dedicated to the next generation of surgeons, Mr Chan is a GMC recognised trainer and member of the Education and Training Committee of BSSH. He interviews for national entry selection into higher speciality training in Plastic Surgery.
He serves as a peer reviewer for leading plastic surgery journals, runs a national microsurgery training course and presents at national, or international conferences. Sharing knowledge with his colleagues, so their patients benefit.
